On May 29th, I decided to go on a 100 day content challenge to see if I could grow my Instagram account from 1,257 followers to 10k.
I wanted to do it the right way, by creating engaging content that really drove an engaged audience.
100 Days later, on September 6th, I have 35k+ followers with a 10.87% engagement rate. And now as of December 2023 I have over 100k
I made plenty of mistakes, but had some great wins and now I’ve put together the complete guide for Instagram growth so that you don’t need to make the mistakes I did and can skip on over to growth.
In week one we are going to work on going back to some of the basics, just to make sure you haven’t missed anything. Let’s look at your follower:following ratio, who you are following, who is currently following you. Are you starting from scratch and what does that mean for you. We will look at your bio and how it is written, your link in the bio and your profile picure. The second half of the session will focus on the initial research you need to do to be set up for success. This session is all about laying the foundation for growth.
In week 2 we’re going to look at the research and how you can leverage it for growth in a really effective way. What we want to stop is the behaviour of scrolling for 80% of your time on Instagram and creating 20% of the time. For all the time that you put into Instagram, it should be 20% scrolling and 80% creating. We’re going to be learning how to do that effectively. This will enable you to find content relevant to your niche and to be constantly “riffing” on it to leverage growth.
Saving time is important. By leveraging AI I’m now able to spend 15minutes or less a day on creating an Instagram Reel every dau and it’s thanks to the power of AI. We will be going through tools for scripting, editing, thumbnails, auditing and analytics. Everything you need for online growth. We will both discuss the paid and free options during this session.
Getting your hook right is arguably the most important factor in having a Reel that’s going to crush it. We’re going to go through different hooks and the types of performance that they have. At the end of this session, your goal is to see a massive improvement in your scripting and the performance of your Reels.
Audio can play a significant role in the performance of a Reel – specifically for viewing retention. We will look at easy and free ways to leverage sound effects. The other important thing to factor in is the power of trending audio. We will look at key tactics to leverage trending audio for growth also.
Did you know that you don’t have to have your face to camera to grow? Did you know that you can share your knowledge without having to sitdown and record a spiel? My preference is to get in front of camera, but I have spent a lot of time practicing that. There are lots of ways to leverage growth through reels and different formats of reels, we will go through all of the different options that are available for you to grow your account..
The early stages of Instagram growth really relies on Reels right now, but carousels and posts still perform well for many accounts. We will be digging to leveraging them, how to format them, making them engaging and leveraging growth and engagement from carousels and posts.
Instagram SEO is probably a phrase you have heard being thrown about a lot lately. You also may have heard some people claimging hashtags are dead and others still swearing by them. We will look into the algorithm, how it works and what’s the actual best thing to do in this scenatio to support your profile growth. Writing captions is hugely important and a big piece of the puzzle behind growth.
Keeping your audience engaged via stories is important. But what types of stories perform well? What are the little stricks that keep people engaged, coming back for more and not dropping like flies from story to story? We will look at the engagement tactics behind creating a strong Instagram story strategy. There’s both face to camera and no face to camera options available.
The ability to collaborate with other accounts is something that is way too often underutilised by folks growing their account. We’re going to go through the tactics of finding people in your niche that have slightly larger audiences than yours, how to DM for a collaboration, what to say etc. We’re going to look at collaborations 2 or more creators also. Leveraging other peoples audience while providing value to them is a great growth tactics.
Some automations are really tacky. We don’t want to automate everything, but there are some key things that can be automated that really leverage growth. I tested this on one of my reels that ended up getting 3.4million views and over 5000 messages in my inbox from it. It was all automated and I will show you how to do the same thing.
At this point you shoudl really be in the swing of a daily post and it’s time to layer in daily engagement. reflect back on the research and see who you can start engaging with. It’s important to feel like you’re engaging as a peer with something of value rather than comments that are meaningless. We will go through an engagement strategy that will support your growth.
If you’re here it’s because you know lots of things you have been trying haven’t worked. This strategy worked for me to grow from 0-35k in 100 days. However, I committed to those 100 days. If you don’t commit it will impact the speed of your growth. In addition, you may need additional support in terms of learning to present and deliver information well. These things all impact growt speed and pace. But starting today and committing to a process of continuous improvement will put you on the path to growth. This is hard work and you’ll need to factor that in.
I would set aside an hour for each week. Not all of the tutorials are 1 hour long, but you will need the hour to complete the actual work you need to put in to grow too.

12 Weeks of conssitency should set you up on the path to success. Look at it as a process of behaviour change and dedication to growth. 100 days is what I committed to. 12 weeks is slightly shorter than that, but I’d recommend you think about challenging yourself to 100 days too.
